Today was the day

Even though we were up at 6 am, it was still noon before we managed to leave the house, do a few last chores in town and go the 10 km to pick up the trailer. And then we realized we still missed doing two things … but they are solvable from away so not enough of a concern to turn back. We almost ran out of gas, but Swift River was the saving station! That would have be an stupid way to start this trip, neither of us has ever run out of gas, so why start now when filling up will likely be something done very regularly! Just to prove Murphy is always right about some things, the gas stations we saw after filling up were always the less expensive ones!

Home sweet home

Beautiful blue day, not much for traffic, and the Stewart Cassiar Highway a bit of a surprise for all that I must have spoken with a dozen people who have travelled it. Highway is a bit more of a grandiose description than I would give it … road or country lane would be a more apt description. But for all that it is lovely scenery and very little traffic. We had thought to call it quits for the day at a BC Forestry campground called French Creek, but the road looked pretty mucky so we carried on to the Boya Provincial Park. We are one of two occupants for the night, not counting the mosquitoes, they are too numerous to count. Oscar and Oreo are not bothered by them to any extent which is a nice surprise. They have their freedom and are busy trying to locate the squirrels they are sure are here somewhere. It has been a long day so we will say goodnight early!

Last day of work

Amazing how it feels to not have to go to work for the next half year. And I like what I do, but the no responsibility factor is looming very large in my thinking. Of course there is this mad dash to clean up the house ready for our friends, finish packing stuff up, and nothing ever is as quick as hoped for! We do hope to be on the way by noon or maybe even a bit sooner. On our way to delivering the trailer for its water system flush we stopped at the weigh scale and found out that the total weight is 4040. This is well under what our truck is expected to handle so I think we did a good job of packing. Of course how heavy is knitting gear anyway? Okay, so there are a few books too, but not many. I think Lawrie is planning to sleep a lot when he’s not driving:)
