Travellers or Tourists?

This adventure that is life is just a bit confusing. We really do enjoy travelling to different places and seeing not only the natural beauty, but also the places that humans have had a hand in building. The sense of history in some places is wonderful. Some of our trips have been ‘just to go somewhere different, get away from our Canadian winter trips’. Some have been to places where the culture is quite different than what we know. Others are to places where the culture is similar but the history is so enormous. But the trip across our very own country was better in many ways than all the rest put together. The confusing part is this … should we travel at all? The airline fuel consumption is huge, with a pollution factor I don’t like to think about. We take our expectations of how things should be with us even when we try not to. We often end up observers instead of participators. Do we really leave anything of value? Is the experience worth the expense to the environment? Are we better world citizens for having travelled? Is seeing things with our own eyes better than someone else’s photographs? Are we loving other countries to their detriment? I obviously have more questions that answers. Are there answers?

I managed to almost finish this vest while on tour in Peru. Almost … just buttons and the edgings down the front. Fits perfectly and is a wonderful design. Thanks Elsebeth! I got fairly good value out of knitting this. I’m no expert on cables yet so whenever I was supposed to be knitting cables AND increasing or decreasing … I’d forget the first time and then have to frog and do it again remembering to include all the instructions. You would think once a vest would be enough, but no … I did that at least three times on this project. Yarn is Peruvian Collection Highland Wool from Elann.com.
