Not much to see and do in Port Edward, really just a suburb of Prince Rupert. We visited the North Pacific Cannery Museum though we went knowing it wasn’t open. Had a nice wander around and thought it could be an interesting place to see when up and running.
The great street to wander in Prince Rupert is Cow Bay Road. It has lots of touristy shops and neat eateries, and a quaint sunken garden behind the courthouse. Prince Rupert is totally void of the expected box stores. Terrace has the Superstores, Canadian Tires and Wal-marts, so get your shopping done there if that is what you need. The halibut was no product of a box store and was amazingly good.
We arrived early at the ferry terminal and proceeded to sit in the line up an extra hour and a half due to an unknown malfunction on the ferry. After boarding we got to wait another hour and a half before finally departing at 11:15 pm. A last note about Prince Rupert is their airport is on an island, which we think is kind of neat, but the locals are not so impressed. The ferry ride was fantastic though I think it not the easiest thing trying to sleep in a noisy moving vessel.
Oscar and Oreo didn’t mind the trip even though they were confined to their crate in the trailer on the car deck. We actually arrived in Port Hardy a mere 45 minutes late, guess that boat was chugging along a little faster than normal! We walked the dogs at the Western Forest Products educational trail soon after leaving the ferry terminal. Great place, full of interesting interpretive panels. Oscar and Oreo had a blast!
We arrived in Campbell River at 6ish and found the Elk Falls Provincial Park to our liking and very handy to town. This area is filled with memories for Lawrie from his Strathcona Park days and Lynn is tired of the same stories over and over again! Time is tight, self inflicted, but this is a place to come back to for a good month all on its own. Next stop is Nanaimo … and it has nothing to do with dessert!
Lived in Prince Rupert for a number of years as a youngster. Really wet !!! Nice to see the photos and sounds like you are having a good trip. The website is great. Will keep in touch. Kelly
