So this has been an interesting start to our journey … unexpectedly we were five hours late leaving Saskatoon on VIA Rail. What didn’t seem to be too big a deal sort of grew in porportion as time went on. We really did think they would be able to make up time by not waiting around in Winnipeg. But for what ever reason they seemed to only gain half an hour instead of three and then over the next day only found another half hour. We finally arrived in Toronto at 1:30 instead of 9:30. So that meant we didn’t leave for Windsor until 5:30 and had to rebook the Amtrak trip to the next day, find a hotel room for overnight in Detroit and then lose not only a night in Chicago, but the hotel cost for that night as well! Yikes, thanks VIA Rail.
Then just to add insult to injury, Amtrak was late, but to make up for it we had a time change and managed to catch our Metra train, but then it had a totally unexpected slow-down because another train on the track had engine trouble. Off load and reload to a different train and we missed being able to pick up our rental car. But whatever, 1st world problem, as son Chris would say!
The Westin North Shore is lovely, we picked up the car the next morning and all is well in our world again. Now we are able to drive to the Baha’i House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois.
