This is a great place to keep some great information about us. Like our birth dates, trips to the vet, what we eat and our favourite places for walks!
We are litter mates and were born on October 24, 2003. The first trip to the vet was un-traumatic and they had good things to say about our health. Friends of our owners gave good advice, like crate training, reading Monks of New Skeet books and feeding us Eukanuba dog food. Our owners taught us to behave nicely at meal time, which is breakfast and supper times for us. We sit on the rug in the kitchen until we are told it is ‘okay’ to eat. We love any fresh vegetables and fruits as treats.
The very best thing we like to do is go for walks. Well, really they should be called runs cause that is what we do. There are lots of favourite places around Whitehorse that we can run off our leads safely. In the winter our owners are a little worried about places that have coyotes frequently but so far we have stayed out of trouble.
We are socially responsible as we have both been ‘fixed’. Our health is excellent and shots are up-to-date. We had a great trip across Canada and lots of pictures are there of us having fun. Our favourite people are Uncle Mark & Aunty Jean, Kimberley, Aunty Ellen, Georgina, Grandma Stewart, and Chris. Other people think we are cute and have a good laugh when we sing
We don’t much like baths, or nail clipping and actually the coat clipping isn’t a big load of fun either. The treats at the end are worth sitting still for though so we are pretty good about it all.
Our crate is just only big enough. It is a great place to get a treat at and hang out until the folks get home. Other places to hang out are our beds, the folks bed, and of course the “outside”. We especially like going for walks (well, they walk, we run). Digging holes someplace in our yard is good. We haven’t quite figured out why the folks don’t let us just hang out in the garden, but we think it has something to do with digging!
2012 Update
It’s just me, Oreo, now. My best friend and litter mate, Oscar, has deserted me for a place my people call ‘Doggie Heaven’. They talked endlessly about Oscar’s heart problems and chronic pancreatitis. The vet visits seem to be pretty frequent until that last time before Oscar left. I was pretty sad for a few days and all four of my people petted me lots. That part was pretty good! Now I just have to be brave and check out other dogs and people when we go for walks seeing as Oscar isn’t around to do that part of the job anymore. I’m getting good at the brave part too, my people tell me!
2014 Update
Of course we (Lynn & Lawrie) knew this would happen … Oreo has followed Oscar to ‘Doggie Heaven’. While we had left for Israel, Oreo was happily living a pampered existence with her Uncle Mark and Aunty Jean until she was overtaken by cancer. She and her litter mate Oscar are so very missed. They both contributed so much joy to an extended human family. If you are reading this message and wonder if Miniature Schnauzers might be a breed for your family to consider as a pet, we certainly would agree that they are a happy dog with a great character traits.
