We are in a private campsite just outside of Truro, Nova Scotia. Last night we found a great place for fish and chips and a good spot to watch the tidal bore on the Salmon River. Unfortunately because the fish and chip shop was so busy, and I made a left hand turn when a right would have been the right move, left us arriving at the river after the tidal bore had already gone through. Shucks! So this morning we are up bright and early (5:45) and are at the river in plenty of time to see the rapid filling of the Salmon River. This tidal bore thing happens on the Bay of Fundy because of the dramatic rise and fall of its tides. What happens is when all this water is funneled into a narrow space, such as a river mouth, the water begins to form a moving wave aka the tidal bore. Perhaps the tide was not very high today because the whole event was rather anticlimactic. There was a wave and the river did fill rather suddenly, well I will just let our pictures do the talking.
Truro also claims to be the tree carving capital of Canada … they should also be called the four way stop capital of Canada as they are also everywhere you look!
The day turns gray and drizzly, we finally decide on camping at Fox Mountain. The place is cheap and huge, but we have it all to ourselves.
I gather this campground hosts several country music type shows and is able to survive on the traffic they generate. According to the owners, the weekend before we arrived they had over 700 units! Anyway we are glad to be all alone, gives the pups some space to roam. We’re going to spend a couple of nights here and visit a bunch of artsy type shops in the area. Lynn slaughters me yet again at Rummikub.
