There are so, so, many barns everywhere you look in Saskatchewan, and they are most often different. Shape of roof, cupolas, size, windows, doors, degree of deterioration, setting, and of course the contents. We are typically very nosy when the barn is located in an unused farm yard, or what seems to be vacated. Those barns that are empty are few and far between. Mostly they are used for stacks of wood. Sometimes there seems to be enough wood stored to build a small house! Others have old farm equipment, but most have a lot of junk. It has been fun stopping to explore and even more fun photographing them. I could make them the subject of a real study, but I’ve just a few too many other things to do.

These pickup trucks are part of the landscaping at the Riverbend 50’s Blacktop Diner not too far from the Petrofka Bridge on Highway 12 north of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We always think of motor vehicles sitting on their tires, not planted in the ground at a pretty crazy angle, but here they are!

If you’re in the neighbourhood, stop and see the ‘Big Tree’ too! Watch for the sign just before the bridge coming south or after the bridge going north. Perhaps better directions to the tree are “The tree is accessible along the “tree road”, which runs east from Route 12, about 10 km south of the town of Blaine Lake.” And I now have pictures of ‘the Tree’ too. Trees do grow bigger than this in many places, just not in Saskatchewan!
